Rider Age

You must be aged 18 or older on 22 March 2008 to enter the Australian Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championship. You must be aged either 16 or 17 on 22 March 2008 to enter the Under 18 6+6 race.

Race Duration

Solo 24 Hour

The Australian Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championship is a 24 hour race. You must be on course at the expiration of 24 hours of race time in order to be awarded a valid finish result. Riders who are not on course at this time will be awarded a DNF result and be ineligible for prizes.

Open 6+6 Hour

MTBA have approved an Open 6+6 Hr male/female category. These riders will ride the same rules/time as the previous Under 18 6+6 Hour category (which still exists).

Solo Under 18 6+6 Hour

This race is designed to comply with the MTBA policy for endurance races for junior riders. The riders will start with the 24 hour field, but stop riding on their first lap which finishes after 6 hours of racing on Saturday. They will then re-start from 0600 Sunday in a staggered start based on their finish time from Saturday. Some examples:

  • a rider who finished at 18:24:06 on Saturday would be released by the starter at 06:24:06 on Sunday morning.
  • a rider who stopped riding at 17:30:15 on Saturday (before the 6 hours are up) would be released by the starter at 06:00:00 on Sunday morning.

Riders in the Under 18 6+6 race will finish with the main field and must be on course at the expiration of 24 hours of race time in order to be awarded a valid finish result.

24 Hour Entry Age Classes

All riders will be placed in a race category according to their sex and age on 22 March 2008. The age classes are:

  • 18-24
  • 25-29
  • 30-34
  • 35-39
  • 40-44
  • 45-49
  • 50-59
  • 60+
